Quick order
Let repeat buyers and trade customers order by part number instead of browsing. Here's how the lookup works and how to get the best matches.
Quick order is built for people who already know what they need. They type or paste a part number, confirm the match, and add it to the cart — no category browsing required.
How the lookup works
Quick order is powered by Shopify's predictive and product search. When a shopper enters a part number, the theme searches across:
- Product titles — including any part numbers you put in the name.
- SKUs — the variant SKU field on each product.
- Variant data — variant titles and options.
Because it uses Shopify's own search index, results respect your store's product visibility and stay fast even on large catalogs.
How shoppers use it
-
Enter a part number
The shopper types or pastes a part number into the quick order field. Matching products appear as they type.
-
Pick the match
They select the correct product (and variant, if there are several) from the suggestions.
-
Add to cart — repeat as needed
They add it to the cart and can immediately look up the next part number, building a multi-line order quickly.
Tips to improve matches
The quality of quick order results depends entirely on the data in your products. To make part numbers easy to find:
- Put part numbers in the SKU field. This is the most reliable place — it's exactly what buyers type.
- Include part numbers in product titles where it makes sense, so they surface in predictive search.
- Populate the
spark.part_numbermetafield. See Compatibility metafields — it both displays on the page and reinforces matching. - Keep SKUs clean and consistent. Avoid stray spaces or inconsistent separators so the same format matches every time.
Automating it: If Spark Shipping manages your catalog, it can write supplier part numbers straight into SKUs and the spark.part_number metafield, so quick order works across your whole catalog without manual data entry.
Limitations to know about
Search index latency. Shopify rebuilds its search index shortly after products are created or edited. New or changed products — including part numbers you just added — may take a little time to appear in quick order results.
Maximum results per query. Shopify returns a capped number of results per search. A very generic query can be truncated before it reaches the item a shopper wants, so encourage specific, complete part numbers rather than short fragments.
